AI Content Extractor Chrome Extension
Last updated: June 15, 2026
Add to Chrome1. Overview
AI Content Extractor is a productivity Chrome browser extension (Manifest V3) designed to extract clean, readable content from web pages. It intelligently detects and removes noise such as advertisements, navigation bars, cookie consent banners, sidebars, and footers, leaving you with only the main content you care about. The extension supports multiple content types including articles, recipes, product listings, and job postings.
This privacy policy explains what data (if any) the extension accesses, how it is handled, and your rights as a user. We are committed to transparency, user privacy, and secure offline functionality.
2. Data Collection
What We Collect
We do not collect any personal data whatsoever. AI Content Extractor operates entirely on a local basis within your browser. Here is a clear breakdown:
- No personal information is collected, stored, or transmitted at any time
- No browsing history is tracked or recorded
- No cookies are set or read by this extension
- No analytics or telemetry data is sent anywhere
- No user identification of any kind is performed
- No server communication — the extension makes zero network requests
What the Extension Accesses Locally
When you use the extension, it accesses the DOM (Document Object Model) of the webpage you are currently viewing — but only after you explicitly click the extension icon or trigger an action. This access is used exclusively to:
- Analyze the page structure to identify main content versus noise elements (ads, navbars, sidebars, etc.)
- Extract text content from the identified main content area
- Detect the content type (article, recipe, product, or job posting)
- Apply visual highlighting to content elements on the page
- Display a distraction-free reading mode overlay with the cleaned content
This DOM access happens locally in your browser only. The extracted text is never sent to any external server, search engine, or third-party service.
3. Permissions & Justification
AI Content Extractor requests the following Chrome permissions. Each permission is narrowly scoped and essential to the extension's core web scraping and reading functionality:
| Permission | Why It's Needed |
|---|---|
activeTab |
Grants temporary access to the current tab's page content when you click the extension icon. This allows the extension to read and extract content from the active page without requiring broad, ongoing access. |
scripting |
Required to inject the content analysis scripts into the active webpage. These scripts perform the actual content extraction and noise detection entirely within the page context. |
storage |
Used exclusively to save your user preferences locally on your device. No data is synced to any cloud service. All stored data remains offline on your local machine. |
downloads |
Enables the "Download as TXT" and "Download as PDF" features. This allows the extension to save the cleaned file to your designated downloads folder. No files are uploaded anywhere. |
contextMenus |
Allows adding a right-click context menu option ("Extract content with AI Content Extractor") for faster, seamless content extraction. |
<all_urls> (host permission) |
Required because content extraction must work universally across the web. Without this, the extension would only function on a limited whitelist of sites. |
4. Data Storage
The only data stored by this extension is your local user preferences, saved via Chrome's chrome.storage.local API. This data:
- Is stored only on your local device
- Is never transmitted to any external server
- Is never shared with any third party
- Consists solely of simple preference settings (extraction mode, display preferences)
- Can be deleted at any time by clearing your browser's extension data or uninstalling the extension
There is no database, no user account system, and no cloud sync of any kind.
5. Network Activity
AI Content Extractor makes zero network requests. The extension:
- Does NOT communicate with any external servers
- Does NOT use any external APIs or live AI services
- Does NOT load any remote scripts, trackers, or analytics
- Does NOT contact any third-party domains
- Operates 100% offline — all processing is done locally using built-in JavaScript algorithms
6. Third-Party Services
AI Content Extractor does not integrate with, send data to, or receive data from any third-party services, including but not limited to:
- Analytics platforms (Google Analytics, Mixpanel, etc.)
- Advertising networks
- Cloud storage services
- AI/ML APIs (OpenAI, Google AI, etc.)
- Crash reporting services
- Any other external service
7. Clipboard & Download Activity
When you use the Copy to Clipboard feature, the extracted text is copied to your system clipboard using the browser's Clipboard API. This data stays on your device and is handled by your operating system.
When you use the Download as TXT or Download as PDF features, a file is generated locally in your browser and saved to your computer using the Chrome Downloads API. The file is created entirely within your browser and is never uploaded to any server.
8. Children's Privacy
AI Content Extractor does not knowingly collect information from children under the age of 13. Since the extension does not collect any personal data from any user regardless of age, this policy is inherently compliant with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and equivalent international regulations.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the Chrome extension after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
10. Your Rights
Since AI Content Extractor does not collect any personal data, most data privacy rights (such as the right to access, rectify, or delete personal data) are inherently fulfilled. However, you always have the right to:
- Uninstall the extension at any time, which removes all locally stored preference data
- Clear extension data through Chrome's extension settings (chrome://extensions)
- Review the source code — all logic runs in plain JavaScript that you can inspect
- Block any permission through Chrome's permission management interface
11. Contact
If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback about this privacy policy or AI Content Extractor's data practices, please reach out through the Chrome Web Store listing's support contact or by opening an issue on the extension's repository. We take privacy seriously and will respond to all inquiries promptly.
